Lithium batteries can be found everywhere in life, but because of their characteristics such as overcharge, over-discharge, and over-current, they need protection boards to protect them. There are many ways to classify lithium battery protection boards. Understanding these classifications can help us better understand and use lithium battery products.
1. Classification by component circuit
1. Hardware board
The protection parameters are pre-set inside the IC and cannot be changed externally, like a "fixed mode" guardian. It has stable performance and low price, but the parameters of each board can only correspond to specific needs and have poor adaptability.
Advantages: high reliability, low cost, short development cycle
Disadvantages: difficult parameter adjustment, poor adaptability
2. Software board
The parameters of the intelligent protection chip can be set through the upper computer programming, like a "customizable" housekeeper. It has strong versatility and can also expand multiple functions such as communication and Bluetooth, but the price is relatively expensive and the operation is slightly more complicated.
Advantages: convenient parameter adjustment, good adaptability, easy to communicate with the computer to achieve real-time monitoring, and good human-computer interaction.
Disadvantages: The reliability is not as good as that of pure hardware protection board, the cost is high, and the development cycle is long.
3. Hardware + software board
It combines the advantages of both, but the cost and development cycle are also higher.
Advantages: It has the advantages of both hardware and software, high reliability, and convenient parameter adjustment.
Disadvantages: High cost and long development cycle.
2. Classification by output method
1. Same port protection board
Charging and discharging use the same wiring port, and from the appearance, there are two external wires.
Advantages: Convenient wiring, the charging port and the discharging port will not be connected incorrectly, and the price is cheaper
Disadvantages: Charging and discharging use the same MOS tube and heat up quickly.
2. Split port protection board
Charging and discharging use different wiring ports, and from the appearance, there are at least three external wires.
Advantages: Charging and discharging use different wiring ports, the MOS tube has a long service life, and the temperature will not be too high.
Disadvantages: High cost, the charging and discharging ports are easy to connect incorrectly, and the consequence is that there is no protection for the battery pack.
Different types of lithium battery protection boards have their own advantages and disadvantages. In practical applications, we can choose the most suitable protection board according to our own needs to ensure the safe and stable operation of lithium batteries.
