Cold shutoff or heating system: Lithium battery cannot be charged if the internal battery temperature is below 0 degrees Celsius. If you charge below this temperature, it will be permanently damaged and you will not be able to charge it safely. Look for a solar charging controller with a cold cutoff feature, or create your own thermostat-controlled heating pad to keep your battery warm. The battery is placed in the living room, so you can stay warm even in winter. The easiest way to build a cold cutoff device is to buy the victron charging controller listed in the parts list on this page and buy the battery temperature sensor from victron. It takes a little time, but programming takes a few seconds and anyone can do it. This is the best way for beginners to do this!

MPPT charging controller with editable charging profile: Each lithium battery requires a different maximum charging voltage. For 4-cell or 8-cell LiFePo4 batteries (12v / 24v) with new healthy batteries, you can use the standard "sealed lead acid battery" settings of the solar charging controller. This will prevent charging above 14.4 to 14.6 volts and will function properly. If you want more protection and longer service life, charge 13.3 volts and set the float to 13.2 volts.

Over-discharge protection system: When a lithium battery is over-discharged, the chemical properties of the battery change, causing permanent damage. Charging is not safe.
